Schwerpunkt Israel / Naher Osten – Fellowships for students coming to JGU

As a citizen of one of the participating countries you can apply for funding from the Israel / Near East Fellowship Program SPI/NA if you are currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student at a partner university in one of these countries, be it a university partnership or a departmental cooperation.

Participating countries are Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, and in the future Syria.

You can apply for the following activities:

 

Studying at JGU:

You can apply for studying at JGU, even if your studies include thesis research (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or doctoral thesis, including a co-tutelle de thèse, a co-advised bi-national doctoral degree). In any case, you have to enroll as an exchange student, plus you have to submit an application for the Israel / Near East Fellowship.

Documents for your SPI/NA application (to be completed/written in English!):

  • SPI/NA Application form [download]
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Statement of purpose
  • Transcript(s) of records and academic diplomas (copies certified by the home institution – no originals, please!)
  • Letter of recommendation from your adviser at JGU or an instructor at your home institution

Please submit your application as a single pdf file to: spina@international.uni-mainz.de, indicating your name in the title of the pdf-file.

Deadline for both applications:

  • July 15 for the winter term at JGU (orientation beginning on /right after Oct. 01)
  • January 15 for the summer term at JGU (orientation beginning on/right after April 01)

 

Summer School at JGU:

If you wish to participate in a summer school organized at JGU, you can apply for financial support for the duration of your stay (50 € per person and day).

  • Transcript(s) of records and academic diplomas (copies certified by the home institution – no originals, please!)
  • Proof of registration for the summer school

Deadline for the SPI/NA application for summer schools: 31 March

 

Student excursion to JGU:

To undertake an excursion to JGU or to participate in an excursion program co-organized by an instructor at JGU, the instructor/host has to apply for funding as described here: http://www.studium.uni-mainz.de/promos-studienreisen/
